The Light Shines in the Darkness

Hatred. War. Anxiety. Bitterness. Regret. Depression. Darkness.

The moment sin showed up; the moment people decided they knew better than God, this world grew dark. A heavy cloud of wickedness fell upon the hearts of a chosen people.

Chaos became reality.

We followed our own paths, turning away from God’s flawless plan designed at creation. Yet, when we were at our worst, the plan remained in motion.

Jesus, our Messiah, rescued us.

Take a minute and read Luke 23:32-47. This passage is a reflection of the moments leading up to Jesus’ last breath.

The weight of every sin was upon His shoulders. Our savior was mocked, flogged, and nailed to a cross, along with every struggle and secret thought we’ve ever had.

The punishment for our sin was death, yet Jesus loved us enough to take the punishment upon Himself.

But that’s not all. The best news is found in Matthew 28:1-10!

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

Matthew 28:5-7

Jesus died for us, yes, but He also rose from the grave, defeating death! All of those terrible things that brought Him to the point of death (sin and the results of sin) no longer have power over God’s people.

Instead, He took the old and made it new. He took darkness and shone His light.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

2 Corinthians 5:17

Hatred. War. Anxiety. Bitterness. Regret. Depression. Darkness.

Love. Unity. Peace. Compassion. Second chances. Joy. Light.

We were rescued by Christ, not to continue in our pattern of sin, but to live lives of purpose and hope!

Jesus died, rose again, defeated sin, and gave us new lives. Now what?

Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28:16-20

We have a choice to make. Verse 17 says that, though many of the people worshiped Jesus, some doubted.

If we’re not open to the Truth, no amount of evidence is going to convince us. We can be the doubter or we can go out and follow Jesus.

We are given a command and a promise is verses 18-20.

Command: Make disciples, baptize, and teach.

Promise: Jesus is with us, even to the very end of the age.

We were rescued with purpose. Will we receive the gift of Jesus?

Behold, all things are new! The Light is here!
