The Blessings of a Mom: Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day everyone! I am so blessed so be able to spend this special time appreciating my mom.

So many things she does go unnoticed and I’m super glad that there is a day dedicated to moms who care for their children and demonstrate the unconditional love that God shows toward us.

Whether you’re spending this weekend with your mom, mother figure, grandma, or any other moms in your life, this is a great time to show your appreciation and love for them.

I want to just go through some of the many blessings of having a wonderful, God-honoring mom, but first, I’d like to share with all of you a beautiful quote from Kayla Marie Swenson (yes, we have the same first and middle name!).

“Being a mom is a beautifully transformative experience. The life you start growing inside of you ends up growing you in ways you never imagined, humbling you and bringing you more joy than you can fathom.” ~Kayla Marie Swenson

Motherhood truly is a beautiful thing. I can’t wait for the day when I have children of my own (a ways off from now!).

Moms put so much time and effort into us kids!

Today, I want to focus on the things that moms do for us and why they’re important to pay attention to, even the small things.

You’ve probably heard of the woman of Proverbs 31. She is referred to as a virtuous wife. However, she could also be called the virtuous mother.

In Proverbs 31:28, it says that her children call her blessed and her husband does as well. So, we can see that this woman was a wife and a mom.

Throughout Proverbs 31, Solomon goes through the different things that this woman does for her family. She has many good characteristics, but I’m only going to go through three today.

1. She works hard.

Proverbs 31:17 “She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.”

Whether it’s at her job or at home, my mom works very hard and puts her skills to good use. Just this past week, she worked extra so that my sister and I could attend a super fun homeschool formal!

At home, we all have chores that we do daily. However, my mom always goes beyond what she has to do in order to keep our home a clean and delightful place.

So many times, these things go unnoticed, but I am so thankful for the diligence my mom has, even through the small and sometimes dull tasks.

2. She helps others.

Proverbs 31:20 “She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.”

My mom is a great helper! She’s always looking for ways to help those around her and she gives godly advice and encouragement to her friends.

To me, the greatest blessing of having a God-fearing mom is the fact that she encourages me and builds relationships based on God’s Word. She has a great desire to really make a difference in people’s lives.

3. She speaks wisdom.

Proverbs 31:25-26 “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.”

I don’t always like being corrected. I don’t always feel like following instruction, but the Bible makes it clear that we are to honor our parents. They’re older and wiser than us and often know how to deal with things better than we do when we’re young.

Proverbs says that the virtuous wife (or mom) speaks wisdom and faithful instruction. Nobody’s perfect, but God gave moms the strength and wisdom they need to raise us up in the Lord.

Those are just a few of the blessings we can receive from our moms.

Take time this Mother’s Day to appreciate what your mom has done for you!
