This is a 6-week devotional series. Each Saturday, we will be posting a short and focused article. Read for a morning devotional by yourself or with a group! Discussion questions can be found at the end.
Can you imagine what it would be like to watch God create the universe?
That would be amazing!
While we cannot go back in time to see it for ourselves, we can explore the depths of God’s glory in Scripture.
Genesis begins with the phrase, “In the beginning.” This is when God decided to create the universe, the earth, and even the first human beings.
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”Genesis 1:1 NKJV
It is hard to comprehend just how big God is. When we look up at the night sky and see the billions of stars, we stand in awe of their beauty. It shifts our perspective of ourselves.
Who am I but a small person in this vast world? Just when it seems we cannot be in any more awe than we already are, God comes to mind.
Not only is He sovereign over the planets, stars, and galaxies, He created them!
Psalms, as well as Job, is filled with declarations of God’s power and majesty. Lines like “the heavens declare your glory” and “where were you when I created the world?” grab our attention.
Romans even says that those who do not know God have no excuse, for they can clearly see evidence of God’s existence in the world around them.
Wouldn’t you like to stand before God just to rest in wonder before His throne? I sure would.
Oh, how I long for the day when we will see Him, face to face.
- How do you see God’s glory in the world around you?
- As a finite human being, how does the greatness of God make you feel?
- How can you rest in the Lord’s almighty presence today?
