Is Christ Worth the Suffering?

Persecution. It scares me.

I once believed it was simply a thing of the past. However, that is not the case.

  • In Bangladesh, Christians are forced to meet secretly in order to escape attacks and death threats.*
  • In China, Christian churches must stay small or risk being threatened and separated from family.*
  • In the United States, Christians are considered haters simply because they are standing up for the truth.

Worldwide, 1 in every 9 people are experiencing high levels of persecution.*

As someone who already struggles with anxiety, I can hardly watch or hear about painful things without becoming anxious and overwhelmed.

I am the last person who wants to look persecution in the eye and accept the facts. Nevertheless, Christians are family. We are the body of Christ. We are the church.

And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.

1 Corinthians 12:26

Scripture doesn’t shy away from the fact that persecution will take place before Jesus returns.

And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Revelation 12:17

It all comes down to this: Is Christ worth the suffering?

No one is going to die for something they don’t really believe.

In other words, if my faith in Christ isn’t strong and I don’t truly love Him with everything I am, I won’t be willing to die for Him.

If we are calling ourselves Christians, but haven’t surrendered our lives to God, our faith will crumble at the thought of suffering for Him. It’s as simple as that.

One of my biggest fears is being in pain physically, so the idea of being persecuted scares me. I am currently at a point of asking God to give me the willingness to suffer for Him.

You see, persecution, in and of itself, is scary. Nevertheless, we have a hope that doesn’t fail.

Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

Philippians 1:6

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Romans 8:18

At that time Michael shall stand up,
The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people;
And there shall be a time of trouble,
Such as never was since there was a nation,
Even to that time.
And at that time your people shall be delivered,
Every one who is found written in the book.

Daniel 12:1

Now is the time to build a strong, solid foundation on Christ.

Now is the time to share the beautiful hope of Jesus with others.

Now is the time to take a good look at our lives and ask ourselves if we are willing to be more than counterfeit Christians.

We have Truth that this world needs to hear. It’s time for the Church to be ready.

Is Christ worth the suffering? I think yes.
